I want to approach the topic today of the level of clarity that you are using in your goal setting. This past weekend I worked with a group of students in the Total Transformation Summit. In those conversations, one of the things that came out was most of the students had a general idea of their , but they really had not drilled down and gotten very specific. Not only that, but they had not even a written down, to a great degree, the clarity that they needed to to really propel them in their .

Let me give you an example. One of the students was talking about how they wanted to begin taking trips with their family on a regular basis, and so the question became, where’s the first trip to? Galveston. Great. Where are you staying when you get to Galveston? What dates are you going to go? What are you going to do while you’re there? Getting down to almost the ridiculous in specifics, because here’s why. The more we drill down, the more we begin to stir our emotions. We begin to stir our subconscious. We begin to plant those seeds that can germinate.

For example, anytime that I began to plan a trip, I already have an idea of where I’m going to stay, the route I’m going to take, what airline I’m going to fly, places I’m going to stop along the way, what kinds of food I might be eating, what kind of room I want. I am moving myself mentally to already being there, to really compel my mind and my spirit to pursue that goal, that dream, that objective with all my heart and with all of my passion. This is appropriate, whether you’re dealing with your business , your personal , but the more clarity you bring into that, the more powerful this process of … I don’t even like the word goals, of setting intentions is going to be, because what will happen is you will begin to really execute on those things that need to take place.

As you’re setting your intentions, get clear. What do you smell? What do you taste? What do you hear? Who’s there with you? Where all are you going? What does it look like? What does it feel like? What are you experiencing in those moments? Then write it down. The process of writing it down puts things into concrete, if you will, in your mind. It makes it harder for you to ignore them, and it will help keep you on track.

Hope you find that helpful, and I’ll talk to you again soon.
