Are We There Yet?

If you have had the experience of traveling with young children, then chances are good that you have heard these words coming from the backseat of the car or the airplane seat next to you.   Children ask “are we there yet”, because they are excited about the final destination, but they have no realistic concept of time or distance.   They have the vision of Disneyland or grandma’s house, but don’t fully comprehend what it takes to get there.

Unfortunately, this describes way too many network marketers as well.   Many people start their network marketing business with their eyes on the bigger house, the lavish vacations, the luxury automobile in the driveway and like a small child they want to be there 5 minutes ago.   What most of these individuals miss is the time and effort it takes for someone to achieve that level of success in their business.   Sure there are the unique stories of the man or woman who becomes a 5 figure per month in their first 90 days, but the reality is that most successful network marketers had to invest anywhere from 2-5 years in their business before reaching those income levels.

Those first years were not cruise control years either.  There was no sitting around waiting for the phone to ring with new customers and .  The individuals who make it in this business are the individuals who go out and make things happen.  Those first years are filled wall to wall with prospecting, presentations and developing team members.   In fact Mark Yarnell, in his book “Your First Year In Network Marketing“, recommends that a new distributor talk to no less than 30 people per day about their business.   It was this type of work ethic that allowed Mark to become 5 figure a month in 120 days (using offline strategies I might add) and to go on to become a multi million dollar earner in our industry.

The other point that many marketers miss is the need to make a to a particular business and stick with it.   Once you have decided on your primary business, it is important that you commit to staying with that business for the next 3-5 years minimum.   If you are constantly changing companies looking for better MLM compensation plans, better MLM products, etc…you are never going to develop consistency and momentum.   Those watching you from a distance will be left with the perception that you are unreliable and lacking in leadership.  By making this , you will allow your business time to develop.   Some months growth comes quickly and others it comes slowly, but allowing it the time to mature will strengthen and ultimately bring consistency to your operation.

If you are struggling with impatience, just give yourself the same answer my dad used to give me and that I have given my kids over the years….”just a little farther.”
