small home business ideasThese days, there are more small floating around. The great news is that they cost little to nothing to start.

The uncertainty of this economy has had many folks reconsidering their careers and how they work. With so many companies changing their infrastructure and pay scales, it’s frustrating when you feel you can’t make progress.

Promotions are slower, and merit raises are virtually non-existent.

Have you been thinking about working for yourself?

Whether you are considering buying a franchise, direct sales, or other online business, there are tons of on how you can make it easier to be your own boss.

Today, I’ll share some of the best small ideas with you and some resources that you can dig into to help you build it from the ground up with little to no cost.

Selecting From the Best Small Ideas

There are tons of options to consider when choosing from the LONG list of small home business ideas. Franchises aren’t the only way to be your own boss, and honestly…they can be expensive.

So, outside of that business model, what else could you choose from?

  1. Creative Design. Have you ever been to a craft show? I’m not talking about craft shows where everything is needlepoint or flower arrangements. I’m talking about all things handmade, from hand-carved wooden pens to wood burned art and even handmade jewelry. Many of these items take hours to create, and thus the artisans earn a pretty penny. You’ll still have to promote yourself and get into craft shows that draw the right crowd, but it’s a viable business.
  2. Freelance. Did you know that freelancing is one of the best ways to be your own boss? You can take your expertise and put it to work. There are tons of sites that help freelancers find clients looking for copywriters, logo design, photographers, and a lot more. You may need to do some work cheaply at first to get started. Once you have more experience, you can raise your price.
  3. Retail/product sales. There are tons of ways to go about selling your products, and some of those venues are online too. EBay, new sites like Wallapop, LetGo, and many others offer ways to sell products. Even Etsy is geared towards handmade or vintage items, and is known as being a great platform for selling those items online. The options are abundant, and if you want to try the mall, you can always rent a kiosk.
  4. Home care for seniors. Many families are looking for help with their senior parents, but not all services are created equal. A family can feel good when they know that they have an individual they trust, but one that cares for their parents as if they were their own. This often includes help with running errands, light housekeeping, and other duties. The best way to handle this is to set the expectations with the family upfront about your time and what you need to make.
  5. Direct Sales. There are tons of companies in the direct sales market and the number of those companies is growing every year. Direct sales is a great option because it gives you the chance to promote products and services that you didn’t have to create, and it’s much less expensive to start this type of business than it is to start a traditional brick and mortar business. Always do your research on the company before you join and sign that dotted line.

Promote Your Small Home Business Ideas

While the opportunities are there for the taking, it’s important that you remember how important it is to promote your business.

Regardless of how many craft shows you enter, or how great the direct sales company is that you join, you’ll still need to focus on promoting your business online.

Do you have a website? If not, you’ll want to build one or at the very least you’ll need a blog. Just because you have a great business idea, it doesn’t mean that you’ll be found.

You need to make sure that people can find you, and you’ll want to work feverishly at first to dominate your market.

If you build a following online, you’ll have no problem building your business. If you would like to learn more about how to make the most of these small home business ideas, feel free to shoot me an email, or you can connect with me on Facebook HERE!
