Awareness is the first step, but it’s helpful if you know what to look for first.

You need to know the first warning signs of an opportunity that could end up being a dangerous investment before you sign that dotted line.

There are tons of network marketing companies and affiliate marketing opportunities, but how do you know whether or not they are legitimate?

Today, I’ll share with you what you should look for as you research and look for an opportunity to work from home.

You’ll want to know all of the major warning signs of the popular that many individuals still fall prey to and how to avoid them.

The Warning Signs of Work at Home

As you do some research and look for more information about work at home scams, you’ll want to take advantage of some resources that do currently exist.

While there are many opportunities to work from home, it isn’t easy.

Let’s be honest; if it were easy everyone would be doing it right? Starting your own business takes a lot of work, but not all opportunities are created equal.

At a time when signing up with a direct sales or network marketing company is a lot easier than starting a brick and mortar business that requires a lot of overhead, you still have to be careful before you sign up.

So, how do you know if the company you’re researching is all that they claim to be?

There is now a website dedicated to helping you on this front, www.fraud.org is the site. They make some great points too.

  1. Know who you’re dealing with. If you want to know something about a company, just ask them directly. If you have a legitimate phone number, call it and ask to speak with the HR department. If the company is a start-up, ask to speak with the marketing director or whoever is handling the consumer side of things. If a company is legitimate, they will have no problem answering any of your questions or directing you to other information about them.
  2. Avoid a BIG money company. When someone approaches you and tells you that you can make BIG money, it’s best if you keep walking. Any business will require that you put in some hard work, and you’ll have to use your skills to work your business. You’ll need to market yourself in person and online so don’t believe that there is big money right now. It takes time to grow your business.
  3. Get all details in hand before you pay them a dime. This point goes hand-in-hand with the first point. Know who you’re dealing with and get the details before you pay up. You should know who you are working with and what is required of you before you do anything.
  4. Is there a market for your work? If you want to know whether or not your business will succeed, always research the market so that you know if there is enough need for what you are doing. Choosing a niche market for your new business makes it easier to build a marketing campaign, and it gives you a solid foundation to build your business on.
  5. Always check references. Can you check references with the Direct Selling Association (DSA), or even with the Better Business Bureau? Always, always, always, look for ways to check references so you don’t get stuck with a fraudulent situation.

Other Work at Home Scams to Avoid

Whether or not you are aware of this, there are still old-time jobs for those who want to work from home that still get posted online.

More businesses are growing in the digital landscape, and it’s time for you to catch up with it. There are still many ways to earn income from home, but as long as you do your research and check the references as I stated above, you should be able to avoid the worst of the work at home scams.
