Getting Rid Of Your Limiting Beliefs For Good

limiting beliefsGetting Rid Of Your Limiting For Good

Our thoughts, and , shape our perception of reality.  Included in this mix is the limiting beliefs that create an invisible barrier to our personal growth and development.  While you’ve probably heard this before, it will not become real to you unless you are willing to take a closer look at your life in the context of your prevailing thoughts and recurring feelings.  For those willing to undergo this self examination, it becomes readily apparent that your life mirrors your dominate thoughts.  In fact these things are closely intertwined.

Our physical bodies manifest the byproducts of the thought patterns that control our unconscious thought.  This means that consistent, negative thought patterns will automatically produce habitual uneasiness, unhappiness and unfulfilled living that are ongoing.

These limiting beliefs will remain in the driver’s seat until we decide to take responsibility for our lives and the outcomes we create for ourselves.  This is a journey that is not meant to be rushed through, but instead should be appreciated as it creates a positive mental state.

The work of breaking limiting beliefs is both deliberate and ongoing, which unfortunately keeps most people from undertaking this process.  The outcome of this journey of self awareness is not only the identification of limiting thought patterns, but also recognition of the negative outcomes that they produce in your life.

To break our “limiting beliefs”, there are four critical steps that need to be taken.  I would recommend that you write these down and then come back to them on a regular basis, making small adjustments when needed.

Step 1: Identification Of The Problem

What specific life event is creating the negative that you feel? (Anger, fear, resentment, sadness, etc.) It is important that you be very specific.

Step 2: Take Ownership Of Your Negative Thoughts and Limiting Beliefs About This Problem

What are your thoughts about this particular situation? Is it perplexing? Does it cause you frustration? Do you get upset when you think about it?  Does it cause you to become angry or fearful?

In what way is this problem in opposition from from how you want things to be? Be very truthful what you THINK about this situation.

Step 3: Byproducts of Your Limiting Beliefs

What do these limiting beliefs and thoughts bring about inside of you? As a result of these emotions, what type of action do you end up taking? How do these emotions, limiting beliefs, negative thoughts and actions make you feel?

At this point, we have taken ownership of the problem, identified the limiting beliefs and negative thoughts about the problem, discovering the emotional impact and harm that is done to your well-being. While there are many reasons you could justify these beliefs, thoughts, emotions and actions, that is not the purpose we are striving for.  We don’t want to justify our current condition! We want to improve it! Therefore, let’s go to step four…

Step 4: Ditch & Decide

It takes practice to ditch the negative thoughts and harmful actions that are holding you back.  Asking a simple question of yourself, such as:  “Do I find happiness and health by continually thinking these thoughts and choosing this course of action?” will give you the right frame of reference to let things go, and choose better thoughts, and feel better about life.

It is critical to remember that limiting beliefs are only negative thoughts that we continue to think, that is why we must condition ourselves to think continually along more positive patterns of thought.
