Do You Really “Expect The Best?”

Do You Really “Expect The Best?”

“Expect the Best” – these words sat on my Dad’s desk throughout his career.  After he retired he passed it onto me.  That is what this article is about.  Expecting the best comes into play with every area of your life; whether it is your professional life, raising your kids, your marriage, even the mundane day to day activities.

Expecting the best – it is incredible how our minds play a part in expecting the best.  Again, let me say, it is amazing how much our dictates our outcomes.  If my is always self defeating, I will always be self defeating.  If I expect the best out of every situation, I will find ways to make the most of every situation.

Here are a couple of examples.  One of the things I often find with a new marketer coming online, perhaps they don’t have a lot of money, they are not expecting the best.  Because of this, the choices they make their marketing and their advertising are not the best.  They are often unwilling to make a sacrifice for their business because they do not expect the best.

Your expectations set the tone for your actions.  I will say this say this again.  Your expectations set the tone for your actions.  Take a few moments to think about what you are really expecting from your business.  Expecting is not, “I hope this happens or it would be nice if it happens”, but is asking the question, what am I anticipating is going to happen in my business?   Do you expect to make $1000 this month?  Do you expect to make $5000 this month?  Do you expect to make $10,000 this month?  Whatever the amount, do you really expect to make it?

If you don’t expect to make that amount, your actions will be mirroring your expectations.  You will be self defeating.  It is amazing to find out just how our subconscious works.   I was recently challenged with an exercise where I was asked to imagine the largest dollar amount I have ever made in a given month and then to double that amount.  And then I was asked what I was feeling and I was kind of sick to my stomach.  The reason I found out I was sick to my stomach was because 10 or 11 years ago was the largest amount of money I have ever made in a single month.   When that happened I had an issue arise in my business that ended up costing me $25,000 and ended up putting a real crunch on my family.

What I didn’t realize was that I had developed a fear of large numbers.  So anytime I was challenged with large numbers, I was expecting the worst.  I was becoming my own self defeating adversary.  I couldn’t understand for so many years why I kept hitting a ceiling I couldn’t get through.  It became very clear that I was expecting the worst because of a bad experience.

You need to examine what is happening in your mind as you look at your business.  I want to encourage you with these words, “Expect the Best”.  Maybe you need to get a plaque for your desk with these words.   Remember these words and let them begin to sink in and become a part of your .
