The success or failure of your article marketing efforts is tied directly to your selection and usage of traffic generating keywords. The purpose of article marketing is to produce content that will achieve high search engine rankings for targeted keywords. The strategy in keyword selection is to find keywords and phrases that are highly searched for, but not overly dominated.
For example, if I were marketing vitamins. I could write an article that is built around the keyword vitamins, but I would not achieve much success in the search engine rankings, because the word is too highly saturated in the market. However, if I were to build around this keyword phrase: “organic chewable multi-vitamin” I would be utilizing a much more targeted and less sought after keyword. One well written article building on this keyword, could quickly drive me up the search engine rankings for that phrase and place of the first page of Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc… Now I am driving massive amounts of free traffic to my article. The resource box of that article lists my website and I immediately see my website traffic increase as well.
So the question is, how do you choose the right keywords? There are a few free keyword selection tools out there, but they will have program restrictions. Keyword selection is too important for cutting corners. I personally use Market Samurai. They offer a free trial, so you may want to take them for a test drive.
