Blogging for network marketers, step 4 – Promoting your blog

Ok, so we’ve chosen your domain, set up your blog and discussed content.  Now it is time to promote your network marketing blog.   So how do you promote your blog?

The easy answer is to buy , but I’m going to assume if you’re reading this post, you are a beginning marketer who is no rolling in the dough at this time in your life.   So I’m going to focus on free resources that are available to you and will allow you to build a substantial business.

    • Word of mouth – the easiest and most cost effective form of is simply telling someone about your blog
    • Email signatures – place a link on all of your outgoing email correspondence with some sort of tag line (ie:  Simple steps for online marketers – www.carlwillis.com)
    • Forum signatures – if you are not already hanging out in forums related to your product or company…you should be!  Use a similar signature to your email signature in your forum posts.  If you are using forums, become a part of the discussion…don’t be a SPAMMER (this means don’t post your product links all over the place….you will be BANNED!!!!!!!)  The forum is a place to show your knowledge of the topic and to begin setting yourself apart as the expert.  In your forum posts you might say something like this:  “The other day on my blog I was discussing this very topic and I pointed out that…..”  People buy from and work with leaders in their respective fields…remember that!
    • Free classifieds ads –  These are just what they say.  Free online classified advertising sites.  Again, if you’re pitching product or company, you will not see any fruit.  Be different, offer something that no one else is.  For example you might want to use an ad headline like this:  Newsflash About Your MLM: and your ad copy might say this:  Nobody Cares About Your Business!

Here is a list of beginning places for free classified advertising:

    • Social Networking – this includes sites like Facebook (You can access a thorough training on Facebook at http://fb.carlwillis.net), Linked-In, Myspace, Plaxo and others.  Again these are community building sites.  Talk about yourself, your family, your work…but don’t be a SPAMMER!!!! No one wants to receive a daily email from you telling them how they can make a six-figure income in the next 90 days with your opportunity.   A good social networking post might look like this:  Writing a blog article on how MLM marketers can use their blog to build their business.  Remember…BE THE EXPERT!!!!
  • Content sharing – You will also want to submit your posts to Stumbleupon, Digg and Reddit.   These sites are user shared content and will help drive additional traffic to your blog.  Make sure you are posting value added content, because other users will be rating your content.  The higher rated your content…the more it will be seen.
  • – This is one of the most powerful tools in your arsenal.  involves the development of small articles that are published on a particular topic of interest.   These articles utilize strategic keywords that will bring targeted traffic to your blog.   You can access a thorough training on at http://article.carlwillis.net
  • Traffic Exchanges – traffic exchanges work on the “I’ll look at yours…if you’ll look at mine principle.”  In a traffic exchange, users agree to view each others websites in exchange for viewing of their own website.  As you view other websites you are earning credits (each credit representing one viewing of your website).   Free memberships generally operate on a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio, meaning that you view 2 sites or 3 sites to earn 1 viewing of your site.  With a paid upgrade membership (generally a very low monthly cost) that ratio moves to a 1:1 and free credits are given each month.   Traffic exchanges also show your banner and text ads in their rotation as well.  To get a look inside a traffic exchange sign up for my video A Newbie’s Guide to Traffic-Splash.  I regularly review traffic exchanges on this site, and I have a listing of some of the top exchanges and proper strategies for utilizing them in The Cheapskates Guide to Online Marketing.  For a listing of the top traffic exchanges check out the Affiliate Funnel ranking page.
  • Safelists – safelists work on a similar principle to traffic exchanges, but use the medium of email.  In a safelist, you agree to receive emails from others in return for them receiving your emails.   You are also allowed to attach a website to your email, that the receiving party is required to view to receive credits (each credit is worth 1 email recipient) for their future mailings.   You will want to set up a Gmail account through Google if you are going to utilize this strategy, as you will literally be receiving thousands of emails.   In a safelist, you are allowed to email every 3-7 days.  Your email will be sent to a number of recipients determined by your credit balance and/or membership level.   Safelists are also covered in The Cheapskates Guide to Online Marketing.
  • Video Marketing – Make short videos giving a brief overview of a series you are working on with your blog.  You will want to have your blog website listed in your video description.  Again Youtube is a place of community building.  Youtube will shut you down in a heartbeat for spamming your product or program.
  • This is more than enough to get you started.  Please contact me if you would like to know more about any of these methods.

In my next post I will give you some strategies for monetizing your blog.
