Blogging for Network Marketers step 3 – What to Say

In the first two steps of this series, I walked you through selecting your “virtual address.”  In the last we talked about the blogging infrastructure and I introduced you to both free and paid options for your blog.    Today I want to tackle the issue of content.

Content is critical to the success of your network marketing blog and its effectiveness in your marketing efforts.   This is a place where you will need to utilize the Costanza principle of marketing.  The natural inclination is to make your blog a rehashing of your online shopping website.  YOU NEED TO RESIST THIS URGE!!!!!

Remember the purpose of your blog is to brand yourself as an expert in your particular product field.  Let me explain this concept further.  If I am a distributor for XYZ Vitamin Company, the worst mistake I could make would be to continually talk about XYZ Vitamins and the different products that we offer.   Your blog is the place where you are going to set yourself apart from every other XYZ Vitamin distributor and competitor.   You are going to become a valued expert.

The first step in your labeling is the name of your blog.  You want your blog to either personally brand you or the field of expertise that you wish to be associated with.

Let’s take this example a few steps further, and assume that the primary product in your lineup is a “ health vitamin formula.”   You would then want to be come the expert on health.  Here might be some posts you might write:

  • 5 things that could adversely affect your heart health
  • 3 daily exercises that will improve your heart health today
  • The importance of nutrition in determining heart health
  • How dietary supplements can improve your heart health
  • Environmental factors contribute to overall heart health
  • Book review – The Physicians Guide to a Healthy Heart

There are a couple of critical things to point out in this example.  You will notice that I am using the term “heart health” or some derivative in every title.   I will also add this “key phrase” in different places throughout my article.   The reason for doing this is simple…I want the search engines to connect my website with the issue of “heart health.”  Every piece of promotion I do with my blog will utilize that “key phrase” in it somewhere.

In choosing your keywords and key phrases, you will want to utilize the Google Keyword Planner.  This tool will show you the search traffic for particular key words and phrases.  Look for highly searched keywords that are less competitive in advertiser competition.  Try to utilize those keywords and phrases in your title and first lines of each blog that you make.  You will also want to use this keyword or key phrase in your meta tags and meta description of your site (again connecting your blog to the keyword in the eyes of the search engine).

Try to at least once per week as a minimum.  Remember content is your friend.  You want to give people a reason to check back on your blog as frequently as possible.

In my next post I will talk about how to promote your blog.
