MLM Prospecting Tips Anyone Can Use

MLM prospecting tips are one of the most requested topics that I receive from my team members and blog readers alike.  This is particularly true from those who are struggling to build the downlines in their organization.   It is no secret that prospecting is a critical component for building any type of MLM business.  Not only is it critical, but it is the one skill that will produce income in your business faster than any other skill.   Once this skill is learned and consistently utilized, the momentum created in an individual’s business is nearly unstoppable.  The MLM prospecting tips I am going to share with you have been used by hundreds of business owners to build profitable home based businesses both online and offline.

Common Sense MLM Prospecting Tips

I want to begin by going over some common sense MLM prospecting tips.   When you read these you may think to yourself “I already know that;” however, most network marketer totally ignore these tips or they refuse to do them.   Those that choose to apply these common sense items typically find success in their business.  The first piece of common sense is that you need to generate leads.   Unlike the movie “Field Of Dreams”, just because you build it does not mean that people will automatically come.   Without leads there are no prospects and without prospects there are no sales or sign ups.   If you are unsure how to generate leads, I would recommend that you invest in a monthly membership to My Lead System Pro.   MLSP teaches network marketers how to generate leads using a variety of tactics and strategies, providing great MLM prospecting tips on each of their weekly webinars.

The second common sense tip is that you become a major user of the telephone.  Now I know that word strikes fear into the heart of many of you.  You would willingly crawl over broken glass or wrestle alligators, but the thought of talking on the phone to a prospect leaves you shaking at the knees and sweating profusely.  Ray Higdon often makes this statement and I think you need to hear it as well:  ”You can build a network marketing business online or offline, but you cannot build it without a telephone.”   The truth of the matter is that the phone is the one piece of equipment that allows you to connect with the most people during the course of a day.   In my own business the sign up and retention rate of new representatives and customers is 2-3 times higher for those whom I have spoken to on the phone.   The phone call not only sets you apart, but it allows you to develop rapport as you get to know your prospects better.

Advanced MLM Prospecting Tips

Now that we have the common sense stuff out of the way, let’s talk about some advanced MLM prospecting tips.  These are things that come into play once you begin doing the things we discussed above.   For starters embrace questions.  What I mean by this is become a master at asking questions.   There are two reasons for this.  First of all it disarms the natural defenses of the prospect.  They are expecting you to bombard them with a sales pitch, but when you ask questions they begin to open and will actually reveal what it takes to enroll them into your business.   One of my favorite opening questions is:  ”What in your life has changed that has you looking at a home business?”   Another favorite is something like this:  ”What has you currently looking for information about building a home based business?”   Once an answer is given to these questions, it is best to clarify and repeat that answer.

Another great tip is to substitute the word “open” for the word “interested.”  For instance many people would ask a prospect something along these lines:  ”Would you be interested in learning about a business opportunity?”   When you phrase that question differently, you draw people’s desire to be open in life.  This question might be rephrased in this manner:  ”Would you be open to a side project that doesn’t interfere with what you are currently doing?”  Simple word selection can often make the greatest difference in your MLM prospecting efforts.

Another important tip is to mirror the speech of your prospect.  If your prospect talks slow then you should try to match the pace of their speech.  If they speak loud you should speak loud and if they speak softly, you should also speak softly.  Another point of mirroring comes by paying attention to the prospect’s word choice.   Listen for visual, auditory and touch based words.   If a person uses visual words, then you will also want to use visual words.  Visual words would be such things as I see, I envision, in looking back, etc….   Words like sounds like, I’m hearing and other similar statements reveal and auditory bearing.   Touch words are things like reach out, touch base and grab hold of.

These are just a few basic MLM prospecting tips that will create great momentum in your business if they are applied on a consistent basis.
