Being The MLM Leader Other Leaders Are Looking For

Are you the MLM leader that other leaders are looking for?  I hope that question makes you stop and think for a few moments.   Building a successful network marketing business embodies so much more than simply adding people to your downline.  Everyday countless people join an MLM downline and just as many, if not more, leave a downline.   When you truly examine why people join and why they leave, the answer boils down to one thing….leadership.   When you become the type of MLM leader that other leaders are looking for, people will not only join your business but they will stay.   When you fail the leadership test, people will leave your organization just as quickly as they arrived.

Have You Earned The Right To Be An MLM Leader?

Earning the right to be an MLM leader has very little to do with how big your paychecks are.   There are great leaders in this industry who are just starting out and have not even begun to scratch the surface of their potential; however, watching how they go about their business, there is no mistaking that they are doing the right things.  There are two very penetrating questions that often get asked in coaching sessions.  The first question goes something like this:  ”Would you join your network marketing team?”   The second question takes this a little further:  ”Why should someone join YOUR network marketing team?”   At the very core of leadership is the word “influence.”   Great leaders don’t rely on position or titles to lead, but instead they use influence to accomplish great things with diversified groups of people.  Achieving influence begins with understanding the needs of the people you work with.   When you understand what they are trying to accomplish, you can begin to speak to those felt needs.   When people see that their success is important to you, they are much more apt to follow your guidance.

A Great MLM Leader Sets The Expectation

The pace you set as an MLM leader has great influence upon the overall productivity of your team.   People will often duplicate the behaviors they see in you.   When you set the bar low, people will aim low.   When you set the bar high, people will aim high.   A network marketing leader who never talks to anyone about their business, doesn’t participate in the company autoship and never attends any training, will more often than not replicate those same types of behaviors in their business.   What is even worse is that this leader will draw people to them who are pre-conditioned to operate that way, as we tend to reproduce what we are.  The truth is this individual may have  a downline, but they really are not leading.

On the other hand, when an MLM leader sets the bar high for their team, two things begin to happen.  First of all, those who are looking for an easy button, with no commitment and no investment will generally not join the team, because it is “too much work.”   This positioning means that the leader is much more likely to attract serious business builders to their team.   The second thing that happens with type of posturing is the environment of expectation.   When a leader sets the pace from the beginning, serious business builders are sure to follow suit.   Proper positioning might include  the expectation that people who join the team participate in autoship and regular training sessions.   In fact a leader might say something along the lines of:  ”I only work closely with team members who participate in the monthly purchase of product and the weekly training webinars.”  By setting this expectation up front, it challenges the team member to raise the level of their game if they really want the benefits of being on the team.

The old saying goes:  ”Everything rises and falls on leadership.”  The same is true with your network marketing business.  One of the greatest methods of ensuring your long term success is simply to become the MLM leader that other leaders are looking for.
