I am contacted on a regular basis by people who want to learn to generate leads for their network marketing business. As the days go by, these individuals begin generating leads, but somehow their business doesn’t seem to be growing. As I begin to probe the issue with them, everything seems to be as it should. Their marketing is getting traffic and they are seeing leads come in…then comes the dreaded question: ”Are you calling your leads?” This is normally followed by a long silence or a string of reasons excuses.

What so many marketers don’t seem to understand is the real reason you learn to generate leads in the first place. It is simply to provide you the opportunity to talk with more people. One of the common objections to network marketing through the years has been the idea of not having enough people to talk to. You may have even heard statements like these: ”I just don’t know that many people” or “I’m not sure I could find enough people who would be interested.” The real purpose of lead generation is to completely remove these obstacles from the path of the marketer. Instead of trudging through a cold market that is unreceptive to the product or opportunity, the marketer is now working with individuals who are already showing an interest. The only thing that remains is for you to talk to them and build the relationship.

When you learn to generate leads effectively, you will have plenty of people to talk to about your products and business opportunity. The only thing that will keep you from succeeding at this point is simply neglecting to put forth an effort to build a relationship from there. When a lead is generated with a phone number, that person has a reasonable expectation that you will be calling. The sooner you call that lead, the hotter that lead is for building your business. The longer you wait, of if you fail to call, they will grow cold to you and simply move on. The sad part of this story is the realization that they will ultimately end up on someone’s business team and generally it will be the person who took the proactive step of reaching out to them.
I am glad that so many are taking the time to learn to generate leads for themselves. There really is no better way of doing business. I hope that they will be equally as serious about picking up the phone and really connecting with those leads as well.
