ViSalusWhy I Am Adding Visalus To My Business Portfolio

This past week I took the plunge and added ViSalus Sciences to my business lineup.   If you’ve spent much time online, especially in social media, you have undoubtedly seen many people promoting the 90 day Body By Vi challenge.   I had never really given much thought to joining the company, because I have never really gotten excited about nutritional products so I’ve chosen to focus my energies on other niche markets.   All of that changed a few weeks ago when one of my business partners approached me about coming into ViSalus as part of a larger marketing group.    This caused me to take a closer look at the company and why it might be a good addition to my business lineup.

ViSalus – Built Around The 90 Day Challenge

One of my requirements for the businesses that I choose to participate in is whether or not they have a market beyond the network marketing community.   If a company is only selling product to its distributors, the growth and sustainability of the company are very limited.   ViSalus recognized the importance of this type of business model and has carefully crafted their business around a consumer driven business.   The heart and soul of their business model is the 90 Day Challenge.    Consumers are invited to try the “ViSalus” product for 90 days.  They take before and after pictures and measurements.   As an added incentive, the company gives away $1 million in prizes to participants who have great success stories.  These prizes include such things as a Hollywood Vacation Transformation.

Currently the company has a customer to distributor ratio of approximately 8:1, this ratio is likely to increase in the days to come for several key reasons.   The first reason is the celebrity endorsements being obtained by ViSalus.  Celebrity spokespersons include former NBA star Dennis Rodman, wrestling star Hulk Hogan and Alfonso Ribeiro of television fame to name a few.   Another big reason for the consumer increase will be the incentive to customers to refer other customers.  When a customer refers 3 other customers who are purchasing product of equal or greater value, they get their monthly shipment of product for free.   For many people avoiding the pain of a monthly credit card charge is great incentive to bring others in.   Lastly is the social buzz that ViSalus has been able to create by flooding the social media market place with before and after pictures of literally thousands of people who are seeing tremendous results on the 90 day challenge.   The combination of these 3 things allowed ViSalus to enjoy over 200 million in sales during the 2011 calendar year, adding nearly 80,000 new customers during the year.

Visalus – Addressing The Challenges Of Other Comp Plans

In recent years the trend in MLM compensation plans has been towards the use of binary compensation or unilevel compensation plans.   Binary plans have been popular because of the synergy created by width restrictions and the opportunity for distributors to receive additions to their downline from those above them.   The Achilles heel of the binary plan has been the fact that a distributor is only receiving benefit to one side of their organization, this is especially problematic if the distributor is not a strong recruiter.   This why it is not uncommon for a distributor to have hundreds of people on their team, but not be making any money simply because the people are on one side of the binary.   Unilevels have been popular because of their unlimited width; however, they have at the same time been loathed, because of the limited ability to harness the synergy of organizational leaders.

In response to the challenges of both of these plans, ViSalus has created a hybrid unilevel plan that draws from the strengths of both binary and unilevel plans.   The ViSalus compensation plan has a limited width, like a binary except the distributor has a front line of three individuals instead of two.   Once the front line is filled, those 3 legs can be built to unlimited depth and compensation is drawn from all three legs.   At higher levels in the compensation plan, there are limitations on the percentage of sales volume that can be derived from any one particular leg.   Another unique feature of the compensation plan is the 60 day holding tank for new distributors.   This allows the referring distributor to make strategic placements based on the activity level of the new distributor.

The other challenge that ViSalus has tackled is the level at which a distributor begins to move into significant rewards.  ViSalus has become well known for giving away black BMW automobiles to their regional directors.   The Regional Director is the 2nd level of advancement for any distributor.   This means that it is not just the top earners receiving automobiles.   In fact ViSalus currently gives away an average of one BMW per hour.   The idea behind this incentive is that a distributor is more likely to stay with the business if they are achieving high level awards in a much quicker time frame.

Aside from the company factors, I had two motivations that were even more powerful.   The first is my own health and well being.  I will be turning 42 this year and have spent most of my adult life above the 300# pound mark, much too heavy even for a guy that is 6’4″.  My business partner also found himself at the heaviest weight he had been in his lifetime and found that to be reason enough to move forward with ViSalus.   I am looking forward to sharing my own challenge results with you in the months to come, but it becomes even more enjoyable when you have others to push along with you.

The second reason is very similar, but it deals with the business.  Often times your success or lack thereof are greatly influenced by those you choose to align yourself with.   In this case, I have chosen to align myself with a group of high level marketers operating under the leadership of 7 figure producer Cedrick Harris.   We understood that we could produce greater results in a shorter period of time, if we would come in together as a group and pool our collective resources to create a massive synergy for our team members.  Those with whom I will be working in this business have already helped me shape many of my success stories already, so I have great confidence in the fact that we will do it again.
