Is Your Network Marketing Business Being Torpedoed By Discouragement?

Is Your Being Torpedoed By Discouragement?

The torpedo of discouragement has proven itself effective, time and time again,  in sinking a vulnerable network marketing business.  This predator uses stealth to its advantage and seemingly strikes without warning.   Those who find themselves facing this adversary without proper preparation find their dreams, goals and self-confidence floating in a burning twisted heap on the sea of life.   For your to survive this encounter, you need to take appropriate measures to render this torpedo harmless.

The Reality Of A Business

There is one key truth of a network marketing business that you must fully comprehend if you are going to succeed for the long term in this industry.  Network marketing is first and foremost a people business.  Understanding that this business is build around people also means that the quirks, flaws and  shortcomings that are inherent with people are also a part of this business.

This means that you are going to see both the best and worst in people.   Here are just a few common examples:

  • The MLM distributor that showed so much promise when you first talked who quit before even trying
  • The person who has been a loyal customer for months quits buying your MLM products without explanation
  • The new associate who you spent hours with helping them form a network marketing business strategy and now they won’t even return your phone calls or emails
  • Dry months where you don’t sponsor anyone new into your MLM downline
  • Google changes their algorithm and your search engine traffic drops by 40%

These are just a few of the torpedoes that you are likely to encounter along the way (I have personally experienced all of these), although there are many more.

Protecting Your Network Marketing Business With Preparation

“Be prepared” is not just a good motto for the Boy Scouts, but it is also a great piece of advice for the survival of your network marketing business.   Knowing the challenges that you are likely to encounter will help you to prepare more effectively for them.  One of the best pieces of advice that I have ever seen for network marketing came from Mark Yarnell, who has been a million dollar producer and industry champion for many years.  In his book “Your First Year In Network Marketing” Yarnell reminds his readers that in your business “some will, some won’t, so what?….next.”   Simply stated this means that some will become passionate about the business and give it their all while others will give up before they ever get started and either outcome is OK.   The key is that you as a business owner continue to move forward.   Every disappointment brings you one step closer to the next one who will far exceed your expectations.

Another key point to remember is the cyclical nature of business.   Although we would like to see our businesses setting new records month after month, the reality is that we are going to encounter cycles.   Some cycles will bring tremendous growth and expansion to our network marketing business,  while other cycles will bring reductions.    It is your commitment to continue doing the things that have proven themselves effective over time that will help you endure the short term declines while still achieving long term growth.

Finally it is important to remember that a network marketing business is a long term proposition.  Although there are a few distributors who find seemingly overnight success, the reality is those who continue to achieve great things are the ones who have made a long term commitment to their business.   They do not think in weeks or months, but in years.   Before you even begin your business, it is imperative that you make a long term commitment to stay with that business until it is profitable.

By placing your feet securely in these mental footholds you will avoid having your network marketing business destroyed by the torpedo of discouragement.
