Finding Your Target Market On Facebook

Facebook target marketFinding Your on

With nearly a billion subscribers to , this social networking giant could be a country all by itself.   With this many users, it is impossible to run out of people that you could be talking to on a daily basis.  The reality is that you really don’t want to talk to every one of them. So how do you go about finding the right people to talk to?  Although you could try working your way through all 1 billion users one by one, you would probably die before you got to all of them.  It makes more sense to talk to the people that you really want to be connected to in the first place.   So how do you go about finding  your ? Here are a few suggestions that will help you connect with your target audience, so you can use Facebook to generate more leads and make more sales.

Where does your get their information from?

Who are the leaders setting the pace for your industry?  If your target audience has an interest in real estate investing, chances are they are subscribed to Donald Trump’s fan page.  A cosmetics consultant is likely to find their target market on Kim Kardashian’s fan page.  It is important to realize that trendsetters and industry leaders have a large following.  Obviously, these conversations are one way, since the leader is not going to connect with the follower.  By offering the value that they are trying to obtain from the “celebrity”, you are able to fill that void.

Participate in targeted groups

There are literally hundreds of thousands of active groups on Facebook.  Look to become active in groups that your target market participates in.  There are some do’s and don’ts when participating in groups. Here are some things to remember:

  • Make sure the group is active
  • Join groups of 500 people or more
  • Share helpful content
  • Comment on the posts of other group members
  • Share the content of other group members
  • Don’t spam the group with opportunity links
  • Don’t spam other people’s walls

Through consistent interaction with the group, you will develop a regular flow of leads for your business.  When someone asks a question, give an anwer with either your content or that of someone else.  By doing so, you will posture yourself as a leader in the marketplace.

Listen to what others are saying

This may seem a little “secret agent” at first, but this is a great way to find out what others are talking about.  Go to the search box and enter in a keyword or phrase.  If you get a list of options, click ‘All Results’ at the bottom of the dropdown box.  You should have a list of returns that looks like this:

Choose the option for ‘Public Posts’. Anybody who posted about the topic you chose will show up in your results. You can look through the profiles, and choose who you want to connect with.

Here’s a bonus: Don’t send a friend request here, instead send a direct message asking them to connect. You might say something like, “Hey John, I see you’re a [point of commonality], so am I.  At some point, you send a message that says, “I would like to add you as friend, send a friend request, if you would like to connect.”

You are now allowing your prospect to make the friend request, instead of you requesting a friend you don’t know.  This will keep you in the good graces of the folks at Facebook.

Using either of these methods consistently will generate a consistent flow of leads from your target market for your business.
