Facebook + Web Of Trust = Challenges For Home Based Businesses

home based businessFacebook + Web Of Trust = Challenges For

A couple of weeks ago I began hearing of users of the Empower Network blogging platform who were having problems getting their blog posts to publish to Facebook.  In doing further research, they learned that Facebook was denying access to these posts because of negative feedback through W.O.T., also known as Web Of Trust.

In theory, Web of Trust is a great idea.  Internet users give a rating to a particular website based on their user experience.   These individual ratings are then compiled into the overall score that W.O.T. assigns to that particular website.   In the case of the users, Facebook was denying their posts based on the rating assigned by W.O.T..

This is where the problem for home business owners comes into play.   Like it or not, home based businesses are often lumped into the “get rich quick” category, without even being given the opportunity to prove their legitimacy.   This doesn’t just happen online, people often view home businesses with the same level of skepticism offline as well and there have been many unscrupulous operators throughout the years who have only furthered that cause.    Unfortunately, this means that most home businesses are guilty until proven innocent.

Fortunately in the case of Web Of Trust, the service runs off of social input.   The leadership at encouraged their subscribers to visit Web Of Trust and give their feedback about the website.   The end result was a change in the rating through Web Of Trust and now those same end users are once again able syndicate content from their blog to their user accounts on Facebook.

With so many people having a negative bias towards home based businesses it is important for the distributors of any network marketing business to also let their positive experiences be recorded for others to evaluate.   Without their input the dialogue become one sided and the business owner may find their ability to operate in social environment such as Facebook restricted.

One of the ways to help other have positive experiences with your business, is for you to learn your craft and become the best professional business person that you can be.  It is men and women committed to professionalism in their home based businesses that will ultimately combat the negative stereotypes that are so easily given.
