Building your online MLM business opportunity or affiliate program using the George Costanza method

I am a huge Seinfeld fan, and one of my favorite episodes involved George choosing to do the opposite of every normal impulse he would have.   Up to this point in his life, George felt as though he had underachieved and failed at every turn.   So as he is sitting in the cafe' with Jerry, he begins to discuss that he should do the opposite.  When Jerry notices a stunning woman looking at George, George decides it is time to put his plan in place.   Before the episode is over, George has begun dating  a beautiful woman and has landed a job with the New York Yankees....all because he did the opposite of his normal impulse.

I use this illustration for those of your who are marketing your MLM business opportunity or affiliate programs through online means.  The general line of thinking for most marketers looks something like this.   They find a great affiliate product or MLM business opportunity.  The product is good, the commission structure is sound....now it is time to find customers.   Makes sense so far....I've got to have buyers for the product if I'm going to make any money, right????

So the marketer sets out with their company reproduced affiliate page and tries to drive as much traffic to it as possible.   There are a few clicks...maybe even a few sales, but no real money comes in.   So they go to the forums and they post their affiliate link with the company supplied ad copy, every place they can think of....but not much changes.  So after a while the marketer sees another program and thinks, maybe I just need a better program and they repeat the process all over again.  Same results....same frustrations.   Futility can easily be defined as repeating the same unproductive processes over and over again.

This is where George Costanza comes in to play.  Although the first instinct in marketing would be to put product and company in front of people, it would actually be the wrong instinct.   When we market with product and company, we are building up someone else's brand, but not creating a draw to us as the "source" for that product or company.   The real key of marketing is to promote one thing and one thing only...."yourself!"

Let people see you, know you, hear you.    As they become familiar with you, they become interested in you.   Interest is the doorway to trust and once trust is built you can present any company and any product easily.....stay tuned and we'll spend some time talking more about personal branding in the days to come.
